Fire Emblem: Three Houses tells the story of a professor leading groups of students through combat in the region of Fódlan. The region was previously divided by war, but at the start of the game the three regions of Fódlan are held together in tenuous peace by the Church of Seiros. Players will choose one of three houses to instruct, with each house coordinating to one of the three regions in Fódlan. According to Intelligent Systems director Toshiyuki Kusakihara, just one playthrough of Fire Emblem: Three Houses took him 80 hours to complete, including cinematics. He also wagered that, should players want to experience all three branches of the story, it would likely take over 200 hours to complete.
Players got a good look at Fire Emblem: Three Houses at E3, where Nintendo revealed the Fire Emblem: Three Houses story trailer that covered the three titular houses and the lore of the region of Fódlan. Nintendo also played nearly 30 minutes of gameplay so viewers could get a good feel for the game. It showcased Fire Emblem’s iconic tile-based combat, as well as the new mechanics players will get to see as a professor. One of the big things fans also got to see was the enhanced graphics that come with being on the Switch, as the most recent installments have been confined to handheld devices.
The game has come a long way since Nintendo debuted the Fire Emblem: Three Houses reveal trailer back at E3 2018. It seems that Fire Emblem: Three Houses will feature plenty of things for both die-hard Fire Emblem fans and newcomers alike to enjoy, and if Kusakihara is correct, then there will be plenty of content for players to work through. Hopefully Fire Emblem: Three Houses will live up to the hype as the first major console installment of a Fire Emblem game in some time when it launches later this month.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is releasing on July 26, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
