The story of Realm of Champions takes place in an alternate universe which sees several new characters taking on the mantles of existing Marvel heroes, in a story arc similar to that of Marvel’s famous Secret Wars storyline from the comics. The story also deals with fallout of the death of Maestro, an evil variation of the Hulk, and a character who also took center stage in the Future Imperfect DLC expansion for Marvel’s Avengers last year.

Unfortunately, Kabam made the announcement that the game would be ceasing activity at the end of March, due to the team not being able to follow through with the vision it set out for the game. The news comes despite the numerous updates the game has received since its launch in December 2020. Kabam also announced that Realm of Champions had been removed from both the iOS App Store and Google Play as a result of this development, and players are no longer able to make in-app purchases.
Despite the game shutting down, Kabam has listed off a number of last minute features that players who still have Realm of Champions downloaded will be able to experience in the game, including new loot and a variety of game modes that will be active until the game’s shutdown. Kabam also clarified that the game’s narrative, and the identity of Maestro’s killer, will have a final conclusion in the coming weeks.
While it is a shame that Realm of Champions will be ending its service so abruptly, it is nice to know that the developers want to end the game on a high note. And with several other Marvel video games entering development, some of which are to be released as soon as this year, it’s a good sign that one title is quietly bowing out in order to share the spotlight with other titles.
For players who still have access to Realm of Champions, it may be bittersweet to see the game end on these circumstances. However, Kabam’s statement proves that they have a lot of cool things in store for the game’s final weeks of service, and intend to make them count.
